Brief Description:  Preparation for Hanging the Engine

I spent a couple days preparing the engine for mounting. I decided to install all the aft fittings for oil and fuel, mount any hoses that would be difficult after the engine was installed, then make sure I had everything I needed for the isolation mounts. The first fitting I installed was the VA-128 restrictor fitting on the oil pressure port of the engine (1st picture below). There are two ports you can use and, par-to-the-course, I used the wrong one first and had to move it to the aft position when we attempted to mount the engine. The forward port is too close to the engine mounts and we couldn’t get the Dynafocal Engine Mount Bolt installed in this position. Next, I made sure I had properly installed the oil and fuel pressure lines properly on the VA 168 Sender Mount, then installed the two oil cooler line fittings in the ports on the engine accessory case (picture #2); making sure to seal the fitting with high- heat resistant #2 Permatex. Even with the engine separated from the mounts, it was still difficult to get the bottom oil cooler fittings in-place. I had to alternately use a ¾” Crow’s Foot and a ¾” open end wrench under the right magneto. I also installed the fuel pump fittings and hoses and the fuel pump safety drain fitting in the fuel pump over-flow port and the drain tube. Next, I installed the VA-133 oil pressure hose, then dry-fitted the Dynafocal Lordes Mounts, Cushions, Bushings, Washers, and Bolts because the upper and lower mounting configurations are not the same. I didn’t want to get these messed up when it comes time to actually hang the engine.
