Brief Description: Inside of GNS 430W rack showing back plate
Garmin tries to make installation/removal of their radios easy by attaching the harnesses to a back plate, then you push the radio into the back plate and lock it in place with (very frustrating to operate) cam-locks. These are pictures of the radios removed and the inside view of the radio frame with the harness attached to the back plate. The first picture shows the GMA 240 Audio Panel (top) and the Garmin GNS 430W COM/NAV Radio removed. The second picture shows the Garmin GNS 430W back plate with the P4001 (Main), P4002 (NAV), P4006 (Com) harnesses; the VOR/ILS antennas, COM antenna, and WAAS GPS antenna permanently attached. The black hole in the upper right is the inside of the cooling air tubing, and the cut-out slots for the cam locks are in the lower left. The third picture is the wires coming forward from the back-plate harnesses with all the labels for each wire. It looks a little messy right now but I spent the good part of a day organizing wires after getting the harnesses built.
