Brief Description:  Flaperons

Wow, what a challenge! For the first time I really had trouble understanding the manual and figuring out the layout of all the pieces. The manual describes an outer right hand flaperon and an inner right hand flaperon, then simply tells you to create an mirror image for the left halves. While that is exactly the case, that does't really help much to sort out which is which. The diagram is tough, you have to really mentally orient yourself to the aircraft... I finally found it best to place everything so that I was always viewing the pieces as if I was standing behind the aircraft. So much time is spent wrangling with the manual and trial fitting everything to understand the layout.

Before riveting the end plates, I just couldn't figure out how the outer and inner halves needed to be oriented. I finally gave up and drove to Archer City to photograph the factory plane and get over an hour of flight instruction in the Savannah... a great excuse for a beautiful flight on a clear winter day. I had a smile on my face for days! It's amazing how I look at the factory bird now, how I compare gaps, rivets lines, and fit. I came away finally confident about my progress and excited about the finished product.
