I cut the top 1/2" off to make a lid. I wanted a lip to strengthen the top and give a surface to wrap so setting the shell (w/o a top) on a piece of aluminum covered with packing tape, I layed in about an inch of glass (6 layers pre-wetted) around the inside edge. Once set up I trimmed it back to an even 1/2" all the way around. To form a chanel for headset wires to exit, I put a small shaped block on the inside (covered in tape). After the layup set I trimmed out the notches and filled the gaps all the way around.
I then fliped the part and layed in a bottom. Same as before, 6 layers of 8 oz cloth pre-wetted (between Handi Wrap) and precut to size. Once set a little sanding to clean up sharp edges finished the glass work.
I added a hinge on the rear edge. The whole thing will get covered with french seamed leather to match the balance of the interior. The inside will get lined, and alighnent tabs and limit strap will be added with the trim.
The finished product will fasten to the top of the center tunnel with 4 screws. I will wait for the seats to determine the best position.
