Brief Description:  Elevator and Stabalizer tips

I finally got back to building today. I had previously started the Elevator tips, but hadn't made much progress. The fit of the parts is pretty good. Early kits were apparently not so good. My only issue was the trailing edge .... too thick. I split them with a thin saw, and floxed them back together while clamped in place.

I formed a piece of pink foam to a near perfect closeout of the horizontal Stabilizer tip. After coating with a layer of packing tape, I pinned the foam in place by drilling two small holes and pushing pop rivets in backwards. I put resin on three layers of 2 oz. glass on a piece of mirror, then transfered the layup into place. Once cured, I will pull th efoam out and lay in several more layers of heacier glass on the inside to finish the closeout off.

Best layed plans... When I pulled the foam, the small surface presented by the edge of the pre-molded tip was not enough to hold the glass in place and it came loose with the foam. I 5 min epoxied it back in place. Now it was too flexable to hold it's shape without the foam with no extra room to build it up further. I stripped the release tape off the foam, beveled the edges back, layed on 3 more layers of glass, filled the bevel with flox and pushed the foam back in place well buttered with epoxey. It is now solidly in place and rigid. Filling and sanding remains. The next tips get beveled, floxed and extra glass up front. Much easier and faster.
