Brief Description: Main landing gear wheels & brakes.
After completing the wings, the next step was to install the main gear so that I could easily move the fuselage around in the garage without any help. This meant figuriing out Van's drawings which did not show much detail. After studying the drawings I proceeded by attaching nutplates to the inboard pant bracket. I then primed the inboard and outboard brackets and proceeded to install the wheels and brakes to the gear legs.
Not really all that difficult, but Van's instructions have errors which confused me to think I was doing it wrong. The parts themselves answered the questions by only going together a certain way. The drawings don't really have enough detail to give the answers you need. The most difficult job was to drill the cotter pin holes into the axles by hand using my cordless drill, since there was no way that I could figure out how to hold it to the drill press.
It took a week to figure it all out, plus I had to order more nutplates and wait for their arrival. Oh well, I guess I'm not in a hurry!
