Brief Description:  Scarf joint problem solved.

The bottom inboard and outboard wing skins overlap to be riveted and would protrude above the wing tank skins when riveted to the main spar flange. Van's drawings show a scarf joint at the corner of the skins where they overlap. My problem was that I had already dimpled the skins which prevented me from filing down the corners to make them thinner. I jumped on the VAF forum and found that others had made the same mistake. How to solve this problem?

The trailing edge of the overlaped skins has a notch cut out of the inboard skin so that the outboard skin will lay flat on the rear spar. Others used this technique on the leading edge of the skin to make the outboard lay flat with the tank skin on the main spar flange. I cut a
1 1/2"x 1/2" rectangular piece from the inboard skin leading edge which allows the overlapping outboard skin to lay flush on the spar flange with the tank skin. Problem solved. I'll do the same on the right wing skin.
