Brief Description:  Checked fuel boost pump operation.

My brother and I got to the airport about 8:30AM and purchased 8 gallons of 100LL. We pulled the plane out of the hangar and grounded the tail tiedown to a bolt on the hangar floor using a battery jumper cable. I climbed in the cockpit to install a 10A fuse into the Hot Battery fuse block and the pump started without moving a switch. I quickly removed the fuse and checked the wiring. (I had the FW ground wire on the wrong panel switch terminal.) After trouble shooting the stick grip switches that we thought were in the on position, I finally discovered the problem and moved the ground wire to the other panel switch terminal. I connect pump power through a relay because of the 15' of 20AWG wire from the stick switches. The pump draws 5 amps.

We poured 4 gallons into each wing tank after disconnecting the fuel hose from the servo. We pushed the wings up and down and from side to side to clean any foreign matter toward the sumps. We sumped and found no water or particles. We then pumped fuel for one minute at 53.5 gal/hr fuel flow, shown on the Dynon D180, into a one gallon plastic jug. The D180 looked accurate because the jug was not quite full after one minute. We pumped 3 gallons from each tank and then drained the last gallon out the sumps. We ran the fuel through coffee filters and noticed no particles of foreign matter or water. We noted no leaks on any tube or hose probably because there was no back pressure with the free flow. We will measure the pressure when we start the engine the first time. Sorry, no pictures!
