Brief Description: Finished installing nutplates on wingtips.
Today Charlotte and I finished installing nutplates on the wingtip cutouts that will hold the lenses over the lights. We used #6 screw nutplates (K1000-6) and placed three on each side of the lens groove of the cutout. We had to drill out the #40 rivet holes on the nutplates to #30 holes because we did not have any #40 blind rivets. I did this on the drill press with no problem.
We used the nutplate tool to drill the locations after drilling the #27 bit hole for the #6 screw and then pop-riveted the nutplates using #30 countersink blind rivets. Each nutplate has small strip of 0.020" aluminum inside for reinforcement. The rivet holes were countersunk using the Dremel and stone. Before attaching the lenses, I'll use a little epoxy mixed with micro fiber filler to cover the rivets and sand smooth.
