1. Got a short length of aluminum tube that is 1/4" OD with I.D. of 1/8" from my local aircraft manufacturing isle at ace hardware to use as drill guide and to protect the center hinge bearing.
2. Removed left elevator, inserted the drill guide bushing into the bearing assembly and pilot drilled the right elevator pivit horn to #30. Removed the elevator and reinstall left side and did same thing.
3. After final drilling both pivit horns to 1/4 inch, used the appropriate number of washers to fill the gap between the bearing and horn. Used AN4-14A bolt with the AN365-428 nut and tightened only to snug fit for now. Getting the washers in there took some creative thinking!
Secured elevators with some gorilla tape. Finished!!!
note: we continued to do this during tornado sirens sounding!!
Pilot drilling the elevator horns. note the drill guide bushing is inserted though not real visible.
Washers inserted to fill gap and nut bolt hardware installed
Finished horizontal stab and elevator assembly. Vertical stab done as well but not pictured here.
