Brief Description:  Wheel Pant alignment (Right)

With the wheel pant jig complete, I can now align and mount the wheel pants. I will need reference lines off the fuse centerline to align the wheel pant jig/wheel pant, so I measured and marked my wheel reference lines using the fuse centerline and the 90-degree square. Once I had the three marks on the floor, I set up the laser line and realized that the reference line was too close to the wheel pant as I couldn't see the entire line. So I repeated the process, moving the reference line inward a few inches. I then laid down the yellow frog tape, which is see-thru, and with the line and the laser line, drew the permanent line onto the tape.

Since I had not made the pin clamps, I paused to get that done. One pin clamp is flat (inside), and the other I made from an aluminum angle on the outside of the jig. They both have a 3/16" hole, which the pin goes thru and can be clamped to the jig to hold the wheel pant.

Next, it was time to move the jig into position under the right wheel pant and level it side-to-side and front-to-back, which was easy using the levelers.

From there, it was a tedious process to align the jig/pant in three dimensions. The first part was getting the front/rear jig lines equidistant from the yellow reference line as this aligns the wheel pant straight into the flight path. Next, using the pins and the clamps, I raised the front center pin to the laser line and repeated the process for the aft pin. The pant is now aligned horizontally. Using light to check the inside bracket location I realized the entire pant need to move forward 1/4" and to do that I shaved the pant at the LG and moved the pant to the desired location. The pant is now aligned.
