I started the morning session with another review of the new schematic, the relay posts, and anything else I could think of before texting Ralph for a phone consult. Ralph responded quickly and was ready to assist. I explained the problem, and he started walking me through things to check. Eventually, we progressed to a FaceTime call so that Ralph could see what I was seeing. We tested the continuity on many wire sets, and that was when Ralph realized that these relays would not work as the 87 and 87a posts were internally connected. Ralph looked up the part number and confirmed that I had the wrong relays for this type of functionality. Ralph said he would send me a link with the proper kind of relay for this up/down, in/out type of operation, and I told him I had some other automotive-type relays and I would test the operation with those relays and let him know what I found. When using the proper relay type - the flap motor responded precisely as desired! Finally - success!
The extra relays that I have do not have diodes and I prefer relays with internal diodes already installed so I placed an order for six new (correct) relays.
