I moved the holes a fair amount and then repeated drilling the hinge, deburring the hinge, and test-fitting the left gear fairing. I will need to trim the underside of the upper fairings so they can slide further up on the gear, but other than that, the fit is good.
I cheated on the test fit as I did on the other side. With the wheel on, there isn't enough room to curve the hinge pin around the wheel or fuse and insert it into the hinge, as the instructions say, with only two hands. So, I removed the clecos on the top side, installed the fairing, and then re-clecoed the fairing/hinge in place.

RB is right bottom, it was correct so you can see how much the hinge was moved
