Brief Description:  Installed Elevators and Worked on Trim Cable

With Gary Kohler's help, I installed the elevators temporarily. A plastic grommet had the flange ground off on opposite sides so that the grommet would fit in the hole in the horizontal stab's rear spar. The grommet was split and placed over the trim cable. The grommet was then pushed into the hole. The trim cable was run thru the left elevator as the elevator was temporarily installed.

The trim cable was found to have its aft end too far aft. The cable was screwed into the nut that was riveted on the elevator bracket. Gary and I ran the trim cable to the full limits fore and aft. It takes eleven turns to move the trim cable thru the full range. The limits of the trim tab's movement are 25 degrees up and 35 degrees down, for a total of sixty degrees. The trim tab can be moved over the full range, but the trim cable only allows the trim tab to be moved just over fifty degrees.

It looks like the nut riveted on the bracket will have to be drilled out and moved forward about 3/8". This should allow the cable to move the trim tab thru the majority of the range of movement.
