Brief Description:  Installed Fuel Selector Side Covers-Have to Redo!

The sides of the fuel selector cover had the fuel lines run thru the holes. The fuel lines to each tank were run thru the fuselage holes. Spar bolts were tapped thru the side covers and the spar. I mistakenly enlarged the two holes at the bottom of each side cover to 3/16". #8 screws were used instead, to attach the side covers to the floor stiffeners. The fuel selector was screwed to the fuel lines and then I saw two things wrong with the installation.

I had not taken the thickness of the spar doubler into account when I positioned the side covers to the top cover of the fuel selector, so the screw holes in the side did not match the holes in the top cover. The nutplates need to be drilled out and moved 1/4" forward.

The second thing wrong was that the holes in the side covers that go thru the spar were also not taken into account. This resulted in the side covers being almost one inch away from the top cover, a very large gap.

I believe the fix will be to move the nutplates foward and then determine where the inboard spar bolts are relative to the side cover flanges. The flanges can be slotted so that the spar bolts can be inserted. The radius of the side cover can also be cut out so that the cover will fit over the bolt heads.
