Walt showed me how to tape off the cockpit and all of the various holes in the fuselage with tape and plastic. After we had everything masked off, we used aluminum cleaner to wipe off the entire fuselage. The fuselage then had an acid-etching solution applied to it, and finally alodyne was wiped onto all of the metal surfaces, included the canopy skirts.
We raised the tail and put it on sawhorses and a block. This was done so that Walt would be able to more easily paint the bottom of the fuselage. The tail was weighted down with sandbags.
The cowling was put in place on the fuselage after the alodyning, so that the painting of everything could be done at one time.
