Brief Description:  Shipped Cowling/Heat Shield/Started on Cowling

I picked up the Van's cowling from Dad's barn and boxed it up, along with the two cowl inlets. Tim Conway shipped it off for me from his shop. I sold it to David Myers in Lafayette, LA.

I received the 4'' heat shield from Aircraft Spruce. I used two narrow clamps to secure the shield to the left exhaust under the fuel line to the carburetor. I ground off the sharp edges of the carburetor airbox with the Scotchbrite wheel. I checked tthe airbox' fit to the carb and found that the back edge needed to be trimmed with the Scotchbrite wheel. Most of the trimming was done.

I removed the lower bowl of the gascolator and the drain plug. I screwed in the extended length drain plug, after applying some thread sealant. The bowl was replaced.

The top of the Sam James cowling was laid on top of the engine to see how the fit at the aft end. At least one inch will have to be trimmed off the top center. It looks like the prop spinner will be 3 1/2'' forward of the prop gear.
