Brief Description:  Fabricated tank skin stiffeners and Top W-425 guss

Well, today was productive, but not a lot of visual progess. There was some good news, and some bad news. The good news is, I cut and cleaned up all the stiffeners for both tank skins, located and drilled the W-425 gusset for the top skin, and started mentally building a plan for the tanks. It sure is nice to see a bunch more blue plastic to peel, and I was trying to figure out what all those hole were doing in my tank skins. (Just kidding, but these ARE pretty much the first parts that I have used that were pre-punched!)

Here is the bad news: The 'old' tank ribs, while in great shape, are A DIFFERENT SIZE than the new ones. The old ones are about 1/2" longer. Turns out, this is because the OLD tanks had forward facing flanges on the tank baffle, and now they face aft. The second complication is that the tank baffle, and spar doubler are the exact same height, so the tank baffle cannot 'slide over' the spar doubler per the drawing. (Wasn't an issue back 'then' as the baffle flanges faced forward. So now, as I have had to do several times already, I have to mix the old and new. I spoke with Van's, and have a couple options. Hopefully this weekend, I have a plan in place. I placed another order today for the rest of the 'full set of new tank ribs'. Oh well, at least I will have ALL BRAND NEW tanks!
