Brief Description: First Flight - problems/aborted
Attempted First Flight was launched and aborted - first call to FFZ Ground resulted in, "Aircraft calling, you are completely unreadable." ... attempt to use the ICOM A-6A handheld was equally unacceptable. Taxiied back to hangar and spent hrs trying to brainstorm an approach to solve without disassemble of the entire panel. Nothing but diagnostic steps to identify the scope of the problem and why I'd not seen problems before this event. I'd used the Rx mode as a guage to conclude the radio was working perfectly!!
The ICOM was either picking up or causing RFI in proximity of the EFIS. S:N ratio was so high that no audio could be heard. Worked 100% away from the panel.
Dynon radio Rx mode was perfect, and all functions with the Map database and radio operation was 100% except that Tx was 'broken' or chopped at best on the other end.
Reviewed and stopped to evaluate.
We did get some video of the start-up, and taxi for the First Flight, but no more than that.
