Brief Description:  RFI - Troubleshooting radio/wiring/settings

After the 'scrugged mission' (First Flight) scheduled for 3.14.17, it was necessary to dig deep to find the problem with the radio which appeared to be RFI (interference). Was unsucessful in locating the L-Com RFI Filters which Dynon had once sent and we removed after the SkyView was replaced. The solution had to come from other options.

While reseaching for information on a 'test freq' option on VAF forums, I found a rich thread on RFI and other related radio settings. Suggestions for setting SideTone to "00" for example. In reviewing the other radio settings in SV setup, decided that Squelch, and Mike Gain also needed to be modified. There was another comment about cross-talk from harnesses into the Music Input wire, and other Audio input wires. DO NOT bundle into RFI wiring harnesses. Includes COAX for antenna. Lead to another possible solution.

Had to review seat pans, and a dozen tie-wraps on harnesses and unbundled the target audio related wires. Had already intended to swap coax cables between 'transmitting devices' and eliminate a 'bad' connector. Nothing wrong with coax found.

Between the various potential issues there were 3-4 mods to do and test. In addition it was decided to connect the PTT on the Co-pilot stick as a 2nd PTT in case. Found that handheld Icom A-6A radio was useless as a standby in the plane when this happened, due to interference in the proximity of the SV EFIS display and near the panel.
