Received the VP-X Sport today and due to car problem had to work from home and started early on the install. Modified the old hanging mount to the new VP-X, about half the weight and height as the VP-100.
Packed up the battery, wiring and special tools and brought it all home to 'bench test' in domestic A/C coolness. Dug out the neglected laptop (Win7, Home Premium) and spent 3 hrs updating, downloading, and configuring. 40 yrs of computing geekdom conquered and communicated with the software, hardware and firmware. Advanced the configuration beyond the most recent iteration of the online configurator. [Conclusion; mere mortals cannot be expected to overcome the technological hurdles required to make this work without some luck and considerable expense. Upgrade an older PC to the necessary versions was a challenge.]
In a few days the switches and other MX150L Molex connectors will arrive and I can continue.
The VP-X vs VP-100 heavily favors the simplicity of the VP-100 stand-alone system. Without a laptop or the PC, and the online or PC Configurator app the VP-X could be a 2 lb boat anchor.
