Brief Description:  Canopy hinge mounts

Not much time today, overdue for new binders on the ole pick-up truck. Heading for an EAA SportAir workshop in Prescott on Sat and need good brakes in the mountain grades. Another cold front moving through, too. Workshop on Test Flying An Experimental project, and a bonus presentation on selecting and laying-out glass panels.

Did some test positioning on the hinge mounts. Manual calls for a plethora of simultaneous and interactive tasks - clamping this, holding that, and measuring all of that again. The length of the links, and the pins is critical to get the hinge secured, and still move enough to release the pins. The bolts and nuts are potentially installed in a way they cannot be taken out, at least without disassembly of the whole mechanism. Hmmm.

The mount blocks need to be back-drilled with the canopy frame (WD-616) in EXACTLY the right position. And, the right position is dependent on all those clamps, etc., etc. I'm seriously thinking of pre-drilling the blocks with a 'close enough' position BUT NOT DRILLING the brace holes until all that other positioning is done. The task of clamping the block and back-drilling TWO holes is cleaner than back-drilling through the hinge pivot hole, and stacking, unstacking all the layers and hoping to reclamp everything perfectly, while working under the panel, upside down. Guess that is why they call it 'experimental - amateur built'.
