Brief Description:  Canopy hinge pin mounts

Fought with the drill press and finally won the battle of drilling the UHM block for one hinge mount.

Fabricated two C-619 AL blocks, and drilled the bolt holes. Then match drilled the second block. Finally, used the AL block to match drill the larger UHM block, using a drill press vise and clamp to hold it all steady. A sharp drill bit, and higher speed seem to be better than a dull drill and slow speed. Go figure!

Lastly, match drilled the thinner UHM block. The entire sandwich will include the F-744 R&L but that is another challenge. The F-744 is ultimately riveted to the fwd top skin. But it 'floats' and has only one other contact point - the canopy hinge block. Don't have a clue yet how that will be backdrilled in-place, and aligned with the skin but will find a way.

The sequence of layers is NOT what is in the picture. It was convenient to backdrill this way. The AL block fits BETWEEN the UHM layers, and is the same thickness as the gooseneck hinge.
