Brief Description:  HS & Elev

Worked on a long delayed project. Decided to finally drill some holes for the elevators. Mainly the elev/HS center bearing to elev horn holes, and the horn-to-horn (for push rod-end bearing).

Acquired a small piece of 6061 AL tube (1/4" - .049 wall) and set up the drill press for drilling out the ID to #30 bit. With only a slight amount of mtl to remove and a machinist's vise, it was a quick task. Then used this drill guide to drill a pilot hole in the left elev weldment through the center bearing. Then removed the Lt elev and repeated this for the Rt elev.

With both elev installed, in the neutral position, I determined the 'aftmost' horn (Rt), and drilled a #30 pilot hole per dwg, 3/8" from edge. Setup a wooden block that perfectly filled the space between the Rt & Lt horns and drilled a #30 hole "straight" through using the drill press.

Used this wooden block as a guide to extend the pilot hole on the Rt, through the block and into the Lt horn. Then enlarged both holes progressively to 3/16" with the block still in place to guide.

Connected the control sticks, elevator push rods, and elevators (in neutral position) and checked the length of the F-690 - exact!! No changes. Then measured elev Up & Down travel, about 21deg and needs adjustments to 'stops' to allow a minimum of 25deg. Also needs a slight notch to allow the differences between Lt & Rt horn positions.
