Brief Description:  VS rivets, spar to skin

Following my Tech Counselor review, I was ready to close up the VS. I left it open (spar clecored only) so that it could be inspected.

The spar to skin riveting is tight in the lower portion, where the doubler is riveted - just barely allows the squeezer to catch the shop head of the AN426AD3-3.5. Had three rivets that where marginal but after shooting/bucking them a touch, it was okay.

The VS-707 rib to spar gets blind rivets but everything else is shot or squeezed. I did have a handful of slight skin deformations when along the fwd spar, not bad, but I can see them.

Otherwise, I'm quite pleased with the workmanship of the RV-8 pre-punched, VS/Rudder replacement kit. Well, at least the VS portion. Rudder is still waiting final rivets.

I also installed the last K1000-6 nutplate in the horn brace of the new rudder. Came in the Vans order today. Upon 2nd inspection the original nutplate totally lacks threads!! Defective.

Used my new irrigation pipe PVC bearing wrenches on the rudder bearing before quiting for the night. Then remembered that I need to rivet, and then finish the LE first.
