Brief Description:  Empennage - mounting

Major garage cleaning and reorganization to get the fuselage positioned for work on the empennage. Even with the 'extra height' on the garage door, the RV-8 VS is a little taller than the RV-6 and it comes very close to the door overhead. Of course, I 'could' cut down the 2x4 legs and make a new tailcone support, too, but this works for now.

Last night, I finally managed to get AN3 bolts into the bearings and attach the elevators to the HS, What a tight fit on the bolts, in the leading edge area. I think a set of quick attach pins from Avery are on the list of new tools.

The clearance on the counterbalances is very close, about 1/16" on the top of the rt side, and a nice 1/8" elsewhere. Will need a little trimming when I'm sure, and everything is tight.

Clamped on the HS and VS to the aft deck and re-read the manual for the alignment issues. Will be reading, measuring and checking many times before drilling anything there. And still need to finish riveting the rudder. And, roll the leading edge.
