Brief Description:  Nut plates on top plate-Top plate fluted & bent

Today, we drilled the nut plates and retainer clips for riveting. Image #1 shows the nut plates in use holding the mounting plate to the top plate. Then we bolted the mounting plate to the carb and put the lower cowl on to check horizontal alignment. We found that we had to bend the top plate up 1/2". We accomplished some of this with a flute and finished the bend by cutting a notch at the bend line. This can be seen in Image #2. We then put the cowl back on and found that this did the job. Tomorrow, we will shorten the air box to match the top plate, compress the filter between the mount plate and the air box and drill for rivets around the back part of the flange. Image #3 was taken exactly one year ago. This was the day that we unloaded the brand new Lycoming O-320 and placed it in a corner of the hanger. It sat there until about 2 months ago when we hung it on our little RV 9A. We hope to start the engine soon. The wiring of the engine and torqueing everything down will need to be done before that momentous day!
