Brief Description: Elevator end caps riveted-Canopy center strap dril
This morning it was too cool (69) for us to drill the last few holes in the canopy so we finally finished the elevator end caps. The poor things had been clecoed in place 6 months ago and forgotten. See image #1. Today we took them off, sanded down the flanges some for a better fit and enlarged the holes to $30, dimpled the skin and countersunk the tips. Finally the tips are finished with some nice pop rivets. By 11 o'clock it was warmer so we drilled a couple more holes in the canopy and then marked the center strip for the hole for the handle. After drilling this hole, we taped the strip in place and turned the canopy over and back drilled the center strip. The fit seems good. We then set our Microstop to the proper depth for the countersinking of the plexi. I then practiced enlarging the countersunk holes to 5/32" using a unibit. This small a unibit has very small increments and I will have to be very careful to stop before enlarging the holes too large. I will practice more tomorrow and then enlarge the real thing.
