Brief Description:  Cut firewall penetrations-Riveted firewall recess

We measured and double checked and then cut the firewall penetrations for the heater, brake reservoir, throttle, mixture, carb heat, and trigear bolt. All are right on the spec's as in the plans..if we read them right. My carb heat perforation was moved over slightly during the drilling since the drill passed through the fuel pump doubler and migrated toward the center slightly. We then tried to think of a reason to delay riveting the firewall recess. We couldn't think of one but of course now that we have riveted it up, we will find dozens of things we want to do through this access. We mounted the brake reservoir and tomorrow, we will work on running the brake lines down to the brake calipers. I have ordered a thicker 1/4 inch aluminum tubing since I read that it might stand up to tightening of the flares longer than the thin wall tubing specified by Van's. I hope that doesn't turn out to be a mistake...... Today we passed the 800 hour mark. I surely wish that I thought that we would have a completed airplane by 1000 hours but I have my doubts!
