Brief Description:  Brake pedals & lines-rudder cables

I ordered 2 AN 3-56 bolts to replace the 4 short AN bolts on the brake pedals. Apparently, according to many on Van's Air Force, the brakes on an A model drag and it is thought that this might be due to sticking of the master cylinder because there was binding of these 4 bolts. It is said that the 2 long bolts correct this problem. These long bolts were $9.50 each. Can you believe that? While working on the brake pedals, we finished the plumbing to the master cylinders and got everything lined up OK. (Image #1 shows the long bolt just at the bottom of the right brake pedal and also shows all the plumbing) I found the correct length for the connectors used to hook the rudder cable to the rudder pedals by making some trial connectors of scrap aluminum. After we were convinced that they were OK, Claude made 4 connectors of 1/2 inch steel and primed them. I waited until late this afternoon and installed them. They seem to work well. (see Image #2) We had never finished adjusting the elevator push rod to the stick because my push rods were barely long enough to assure that over half of the rod ends were in the fitting. I installed 2 jam nuts on each rod end thus making sure that they could not back out if the jam nuts came loose. You can see in Image #3 that there is only about a 1/4 inch of thread left outside after the 2 nuts so that now the rod ends can't come out. You can see that the jam nuts have been marked with red finger nail polish so we will know that they have been torqued. We are doing this with all our bolts at the time we check the torque.
