Brief Description: Tried to get bolts in center section
We had planned to get the wings mounted today but decided to make and fit some hardware bolt drift pins first. Much to our dismay, we couldn't get the 7/16's bolts to fit so we buffed the finish off. No luck. We lubricated them; no luck. We got new bolts of higher quality; no luck. We called Vans and they suggested that we remove the landing gear weldment which is QUITE a task in case it was binding there; no luck. We called Van's back and they suggested reaming the gusset but not the center spar; this helped but we still have a TIGHT fit. Maybe we can drive them in after we put the landing gear weldment back on. This is a task that will take several hours to complete because some of the bolts are very difficult to get to. Needless to say, we didn't get the wings mounted today and are discouraged!
