Brief Description:  Catching up loose ends

Claude had to go to the doctor for pre-op visit today. He has the cataract in his left eye removed in the morning. I tried to catch up on some loose ends. I drilled the nylon block for the left external step and clamped it in the airplane so when Claude returns we can drill it with the right angle drill. It is a 2 person job as are many. I had been concerned about the clearance of the aileron stop, especially on the left wing. If the aileron shifted just a "bit", the controls might lock because of close tolerance. I had gotten some needle files that would fit there and opened up the clearance substantially. Now I will have to look for other things to worry about in the middle of the night. I had also been concerned about how, many weeks ago, I had lined up and drilled the elevator horns while mounting the elevator. This was one of the first tasks that I had done by myself and I was not sure that I had really considered the importance of the alignment. I had read about a RV that had a 1/2 inch misalignment of the two elevators. Much to my relief, I found that ours were rigged properly. Another thing that I can mark off of my list of things to keep me awake at night. ..... We received a replacement nylon right flap end block and I marked it and drilled it on the drill press. There had been a slight misalignment in the drilling of the original one because we skipped the instructions to drill it in assembly :=( At that point, Claude returned from the doctor's and we gave our hearts a workout by riding our bikes for about 2.5 miles in the middle of the day.
