Brief Description:  Engine mount and landing gear

Surprisingly enough, installing the engine mount and landing gear was pretty straight forward. The engine mount was match drilled to the support brackets per the pans and was a non-event. I drilled the first hole and bolted on the mount. I then propped the mount up to align the second hole, got that drilled and bolted up and then did the same for the remaining 4 bolt holes--easy peasey. The only issue I had was I was missing 1 castle nut that I had to order. The main gear was just about as easy. First I had to raise the fuse as the cradle it was sitting on was about 2 inches too low. With my Wife’s help we managed to raise the fuse onto a workbench high enough to install the gear legs. I ran a scotch-brite pad over the non-powered coated portion of the gear legs and on the inside of the landing gear weldment. Then one at a time I inserted the gear legs, aligned the mounting bolt holes, and propped the gear leg in-place. Then I reamed the bolt holes per the plans. After deburring, I greased the weldment with Mobil SHC100, reinserted the gear legs and bolted them in-place. I had previously built-up the tires and wheels which was uneventful for the main wheels. I packed the bearings with Mobil SHC100, got the tubes inserted into the tires (I used cornstarch as a lube-it’s all we had in the house), bolted everything together, and filled the tires with air. The nose gear was a little more challenging. First of all, I replaced the stock MATCO 501.25 wheel with a MATCO 511.25 (this eliminates a valve stem clearance issue when using a standard 5.00X5 tube) and their axel and spacer combo. The main gear wheels are Cleveland’s which use conventional bearings like you’d find on a boat trailer. The MATCO bearings have an integral rubber seal on one side so I wasn’t sure how to pack them. So I called MATCO and they said just do it he normal way (I use the grease in palm method), and it turned out fine. I turned my attention to the nose fork and promptly cross threaded one of the allen head screws that get inse
