Brief Description:  Brakes

Started by assembling the pedals themselves. Completed 2 of them when I realized I placed the doubler on the wrong side of the pedal –how the hell does that happen? OK I drill out the rivets, move the doubler and re-rivet and have the pedals assembled in short order. Moved on to the bearing blocks were modified without issue. The problems arose trying to mount the blocks, mounting plates and rudder pedals to the fuse. It all just didn’t want to line up over the bolt holes—the assembly was too wide. After much trial an error sanding the ends of the rudder pedals that slip into the bearing blocks I finally got it all to fit and the pedals to swing without binding. I then moved on the brake lines, which I struggled with trying to get the brass inserts installed in the (nylon?) soft lines. I boiled the lines per the plans to soften the plastic and got he inserts inserted. What I didn’t do was put the brass sleeves on first – the plans don’t tell you how to do this, at least not in Chapter 38. I leaned after the fact that the procedure is detailed in Chapter 5 which I hadn‘t looked at it in at least 2 years. Hopefully I got the sleeves on far enough so that there aren’t any leaks and the brakes function normally, but I won’t know for sure until I get fluid in and can apply pressure to the system. I also installed the rudder cables. Installing the adel clamps to hold the plastic sleeves that protect the cable where it passes through the tailcone skin was a bit sporty, but otherwise the install was easy. I then installed some aftermarket fairings to clean-up the cable exit and to cover the plastic sleeves. Finally I hooked the cables to the rudder pedals.
