Brief Description: Canopy gas strut fettling
|
|
Starting to plan for the trimming of the instrument panel for the gas struts, and have concerns about reaching the mounting screws for the vents. Put two bends in a 1/4" spanner and can reliably reach it. Also note, (not for the first time), that I will have to change the upper stiffeners.
Discover the forward canopy lip drain tube is too short and rubs on the elevator tube. I had also forgotten, (thankfully), to glass this in whilst the fuselage was inverted, (as planned). Decide to make a funnelly-thing to extend it.
Played with the mounting for the struts, and discover some hand-written corrections of the placement of the longeron mount. Plans say F.S.35.9, somebody else says F.S.34.2. Hmmmmm. Wonder if I can reconstruct the position from the angle of the opened canopy, but there is no such reference. Hmmmmmm.
Whilst pondering this and reviewing the plans I finally understand one detail in the plans about a thrust support. My C8A are the wrong shape! They should be mostly vertical aft to engage with a protruding bolt with a bushing on it. It was reassuringly difficult to remove one of the forward C8s. I had to drill out the screws, apply heat, and bash off with a hammer and chisel. Noice!
