Brief Description:  Prep port wing bottom for FILL

Delved back into the inspection criteria in CH03, and as shown in CH25 and made sure I understood them. Applied the 12" ruler test to the port wing bottom and found zero defects. Or at least nothing like 1/16" anyhow. There were 3 small bubbles in the top ply which met the criteria, but would need a lot of fill to bury, and two of them had voids underneath. I sand them down and mark them for repair.

Sand the whole wing bottom and winglet 40g with the Festool and find two more bubbles in the top ply. Go over the whole area with 40g in the hand, and start bleeding pathetically everywhere. In desperation put on a pair of riggers gloves, and find I can sand JUST as well with them on as without. Live and learn, even as an old bugger. Hot glued a strip of plastic on the cowling flange to get a nice crisp part line.

Apply 5 patches of 1 x UND overlapping 1" around the bubbles with 1 x BID over the top and peel plied. From memory this is the only defect of this nature on the wings, but I may encounter surprises as I go forward.

Oh! And I suppose I should explain. I'm going to finish the bottom of the wings next, flip the fuselage when I'm happy with the bottom cowling and finish the upper fuselage and each wing individually fitted together. I will also then assess how the lineup goes for the undersurface.
