Brief Description:  1: Installing Custom Fuel Lines

A bloke told me a while back that during my build there would be days where I will just want to put an axe through my project and walk away........well, lucky there was no axe handy today!

Several weeks ago I pondered the task of making up the rigid tube fuel lines that go from the fuel tanks to the selector valve, a daunting prospect to say the least. I found out about a guy in the States that makes custom fuel lines for RV's, so I forked out nearly $500 and ordered two hoses.

Today I installed them.

I found out the hard way that custom fuel lines, with great big fat fittings on each end, and a rigid tube section at the selector valve end, are very difficult to install. I had them in and out numerous times while trying to get them to align with the selector valve properly. My problem was that the brake line fittings are in the way, and clash with where the fuel lines need to go. The only way I could get the custom fuel lines to fit properly was to drill the two inboard holes way oversize, and to adjust the angle of one of the bends on each line (which repositioned where the custom line went through the support bracket).

Anyway, four hours later and it was done. I then spent another hour modifying my brake lines in the area shown in the first picture, so they didn't clash witht he newly installed fuel lines, and vacuuming out all the aluminium swarf and filings.

I never want to touch these fuel lines again.
