Brief Description:  Engine Cowls

This morning I removed the mould from the cowl, I obviously did not apply enough wax to the cowl as a large area of resin was pulled from the mould when it was released, I applied body filler to repair that & then smoothed it with fine sandpaper. Lots of coats of wax were then applied over a few hours in an attempt to avoid that mistake again. FAA AC43.13 specifies a scarf of 50:1 for this type of work but as this skin is so thin, such a shallow scarf is not practical and as this repair is non structural, I have produced this one to be about 20:1. Using very thin double sided adhesive tape, the mould was placed in position, with hopefully enough wax applied, masking tape put in place to reduce the spread of resin, the scarf thoroughly cleaned with acetone and the glass cloth prepared. Once the resin was mixed it took only 20-30 minutes to apply the cloth and in 24 hours I'll know if this whole process has been a success or total failure.
