Brief Description:  Build Table

Build workbench

Based on the EAA 1000 design, except expanded from 2x6 to 4x12. Frame is constucted of 2x6's for top rails and 2x4's for the remainder. Structure is held together by glue and screws (8x3" deck screws for 2x's and 8x2.5" deck screws for top and leg doublers. Top is 4x8x.75" A/C high quality plywood. The legs length was adjusted to allow for the uneven floor in the garage. At this stage in the construction, the shelf rail on the E side and shelf cross braces are not glued in place because I am waiting for the shipping carton so I can scavenge material for the shelf. and the shelf is too wide to get into place if the shelf cross braces and rails are in place. Also, My orignal plan was to have a 3" overhang of the top on all sides. However, I want to use the shelf to store the largest kit pieces, i.e., the wing skins and the rear fuselage skins. To get adequate space between the legs, I had to move the frame out to the E-edge of the top and to 2.25" from the W-edge. I could have gone with 1.125" overhang E & W, but I decided that I might be better to have the maximum possible on one side. I plan to mount my brake on the (non-overhang) E-side.

I tried to adjust the leg lengths so that the table would be level when I was done. I did very well in the N-S direction. It is effectively level. Unfortunately, in the E-W direction, the E-side is too low. I'll try to compensate for that when I add the doublers to finish off the E-side legs. I may then glue small shims to the ends of the E-side legs, if I can cut the shims thin enough.

The EAA-100 design was an excellent model. The resulting bench is really solid.
