Brief Description: Tailwheel fix and Pitot tube mount plate
I had a late work trip today so I got a little bit of work in before starting my commute. I took a look at the tailwheel again and measured the control arm. It was a whole 3” compared to the Sonex 1.75.” No wonder I couldn’t reach the stops. I did some trouble shooting and found that if I set it at 1.75” I could barely reach the point for the fork to break into free castoring. This was not enough to work consistently. So I tried 1.5” and found that it worked reliably. I drilled a new hole and put it together. Sitting in the plane, it worked great and the shorter throw is not noticeable in the pedals. The wheel also lines up nicely and matches the angel of the rudder throughout the throw. I also worked on the pitot tube mount plate. I started to drill holes for the nut plates and then noticed I was drilling rivet holes on the plate, not the wing doubler. What a bonehead move! I remade the plate and it fits well. I drilled the holes in the right spot and everything lines up nicely with clecos.
