Another Milestone. The plane is sitting on it's own gear. I seated this for quite some time, I don't know why, I guess it's because this is a pretty critical piece of equip and there is only 1 bolt that hold each leg on, and it needs to be right the 1st time. I ordered a .311 drill (not reamer) from mcMaster carr several weeks ago, thought about reording a reamer the same size, but forged on ahead today with the drill bit. I had to really get the plane quie a way's up in the air in order to get a straight shot @ inserting the gera legs. A bit tricky for a one man operation, but by 'ratching' it up I was able to do it. As others have mentioned, inserting the legs can be sticky, I ended up using a scotchbrite wheel and very briefly polishing the insides of both the top and bottoms of the gear mounts, then with some encouraging from the rubber mallet the went in. Drilling the holes was pretty much a non event, I was worried about alignment etc. but the pilot holes are only slightly smaller than the final, and once you get the drill bit started its over before you know it. same thing with the 3/8 " holes to mount the brake/pant assembly on the gear leg. I used the 3/8" reamer I got for the Flap bearings and it's pretty straight forward. Judy can home from an errand and said " Boy it's starting to look like a real airplane!" (I sure hope so!). The rest was straight forward right out of the plans.
