Brief Description:  Oil leak, AirTex snaps wrong.

Called AirTex about why the snaps on the baggage area upholstery do not fit the snap studs they sent. As I suspected they had sent the wrong snaps. They will send a supply of the smaller “baby snaps”. Was told replacement parts for the vinyl panels we ordered on 10/6 have been shipped.

Checked carefully for any oil on exterior of engine. None. Carolyn helped me install the cowling. Added about a half quart of oil to bring level to 4.5. Taxied to pump, filled left tank. Flew for an hour at high cruise power (2500). On return noted oil leak is back. Oil is dropping onto lower cowl about 3" right of centerline, under aft end of carburetor. See photo. No leaks noted from back of engine or generator. Checked all eight pushrod tubes for leakage, found them dry. Based on study of C85 manuals it seems any leak from the bottom of the crankcase has to be either a leak where the crankcase halves join, or from a cover that is bolted over the pad intended for a vacuum pump installation. To get at that area to inspect/correct it will be necessary to remove the baffles from the bottom of the engine. May defer that effort until ready for the first (10 hour) oil change.

Ran a PAPR report hoping to get the required clean bill of health from the FAA for the ADS-B Out installation. Still receiving a failing grade on NIC and NACp. See photo for details. Called uAvionix tech support. They say most failures that look like this are caused by poor grounding especially in airplanes with the unit is mounted on the rudder, as ours is. However, when I installed the TailBeacon I ran a wire up through the rudder-to-vertical stabilizer interface and made a solid connection to the aft fuselage bulkhead, so that diagnosis seems unlikely in our case. I will have to do more testing, and if all else fails they will replace the TailBeacon unit.

At home, package had arrived from AirTex. More wrong and missing parts. Will email and call AirTex.
