Brief Description:  Oil Sender Switch Install (Continued)/ Power Up

The rest of the work of actually installing the switch wasn’t bad. I drilled a hole in the bottom of the shroud that was in alignment with a frame member below it so I could run a clean set of wires to the sender, including the ground. I covered it with a black wire sleeve to both protect it and to clean up the look. The hole plug that needed to be removed from the engine was tight, but I got it out and installed the oil switch. Once the wire was secured, I reinstalled the panel, valve covers, hoses, clamps, and screws. Proper torque of the valve covers must always be considered to avoid leaks.

The last thing for the last day of 2016 was a task that I really didn’t expect I would perform. I started assessing the electrical system, and while there were obviously a number of items to complete, the circuits that were installed were complete and those that weren’t yet had fully insulated wires. I honestly had no idea if anything was going to work, if light would light up, if polarities were correct, if there was going to be a small fire…etc. I hadn’t started any bundling of the cabin and console wiring because I wanted to leave them accessible for troubleshooting. I made sure that the radio was turned off at the unit since it wasn’t hooked up the antenna yet, but the transponder installation had been completed and was ready to fire up. I decided that she was ready to come alive for the first time!

Just as an extra precaution on the very first switching on of the power, I wore rubber gloves and researched how to replace a 12-volt battery on the Internet. YouTube had a number of automotive videos that confirmed my plans, so after first connecting the positive side, followed by the ground, I was ready to go. I switched on the master switch and was happy to hear the loud click of the master solenoid. I then turned on one circuit at a time, and to my amazement, EVERYTHING worked. EVERYTHING!! I even ran the trim motors from the hat switch on the cyclic, and the motors both moved in the correct directio
