12-31-16 East Coast Visit / APU Plug

I returned home late last night from a visit to the East Coast to see family in New Jersey. I was also able to sneak out to see friends in Pennsylvania. Tom, my buddy I mention in this kitlog quite often had me stay with him and his wife for a few days. We were also able to spend a good amount of time with his lifelong friend, and my new good friend Lynn. It was an awesome trip, and we were able to spool up his helicopter and tinker a bit, even if the weather kept it on the trailer. Such a great trip!

It was great to get home and back into the shop, and now I have to pick up my pace because we set the date and I bought the tickets to fly Tom and Lynn out to California on February 3rd for five days to help me install the final heavy components with their extra arms and brains. The goal is to get everything I can completed before they get here so all that’s left are the items that need more than one person to install. These items include the transmission, tail boom drive shaft, setting the main rotor blades, control rigging, and finally the bubble. This is going to be a difficult time for me because I’m not great at asking and receiving help, but hopefully they will understand my hesitations.

I’ve created a list of the immediate outstanding items, and just jumped in. The first was the APU Plug on the back of the firewall. This is actually a Piper APU, so getting the plug for the outlet shouldn’t be a problem. Before I left PA, Lynn, who has owned his own automotive repair shop for 20 years, gave me a length of “O” wire that I can solder into the APU plug and then complete the connection to the batter lug after using adel clamp stand-offs. I was dumb and accidentally melted the little black plug on the inside of the case, so that will need to be replaced. I should have removed it with pliers, but forgot. No big deal.
