Brief Description:  Console Fabrication

Okay, now I’m having fun building the center console. I’ve looked at a lot of different ways to fabricate this important component and I think I will be happy with this design. It’s set up to provide significant access to the instruments and wiring, yet be very strong and attractive.

The clecos are holding the pieces together while I build, but to give you an idea of the finish product, the sides will be held together with screws for easy access, and the front will be riveted for stability.

I was also careful to match the placement of the side screws from top to bottom. Each screw has a mate on the top and bottom when visually looking at the console from the side. Each is lined up perpendicular with the floor board in order to avoid a random and scattered look. I think it will make more sense when you see it completed.

I upgraded the interior supports to 2” angle because I want this to be a staple as possible. I want it to be strong for the switches and levels, but mostly for instrument pod support. There are also some cool cuts for the top pod mounts. More tomorrow.
