Brief Description: Exterior Upper Bubble Panels

This was another frustrating find during the delivery of the helicopter frame. As you may have read earlier, the original Phase I shipment included shop fabricated exterior panels required to safely transport the bubble in a protected shape. I have found several areas that are not up to the professional level expected on an aircraft like this, and I have had to either remake pieces or modify them to hide numerous imperfections. I have a hard enough time building this aircraft to an acceptable level and I really don’t need much help creating errors, if that makes sense. The corner panels are a prime example of this sort of head scratcher.
On the day of the delivery, my mouth dropped over the lack of symmetry of the rear corner panels. The panels appear to have been made without concern of each other, and as a result connect to the center crossing panel in very different ways. In addition, all of the holes ane theses pieces are deformed and over drilled. In some cases, there were several holes missdrilled and hidden by the top panels. What a mess.
As you can see from the photos, there is a significant difference between the right and the left, so I had to fabricate a new panel. The final form will need to be adjusted once I have the bubble back on, but for now, it is much better.
I don’t mean to be too harsh on such a great company, and I know that creating the helicopter is my responsibility. I just don’t know why the handful of exterior panels supplied by Safari were built with such a lack of professionalism and quality control. It really doesn’t take any more time to do it right than it does to do it wrong. Come on kids….let’s have pride of workmanship!!! I have seen you do it in so many other areas of the bird, and on your factory ships.
