Welcome to my experimental aircraft Web site. After several weeks of shop prep, I've finally started building my Air Camper, a scratch wood and fabric build that was originally designed and flown in 1929 by Bernard Pietenpol. The plans were published as a 4-part series in "Flying and Glider Manual” (1932)... since then, hundreds of Air Campers have been built and test flown with great success. Even today, with a wide variety of kit choices available from wood, to metal and composites, the Piet still remains a popular choice among builders of all experience levels. I chose the Piet for several reasons... classic style, simplicity of dimensions, simple materials (mostly wood, which will allow my wife and son to help), and I hear that it is a heck of a lot of fun to fly. It certainly isn't a speed demon, or a cross country machine... rather, a throwback to a simpler time when the miracle of flight was still a relatively new reality, and the ability of these machines to leave the ground was every bit as interesting as how fast they could take you somewhere.

So, here we go! I hope you enjoy following along with our progress. Feel free to send me your words of encouragement.
