Brief Description: Fuel Tanks – drill out and replace bad rivets
Well there were only 13 of them on upper surface of the outboard rib that needed replacing! Mark, center punch the rivet head, drill 1/16”, drill again #40, crack the head off, tap the rivet base through. They all came out easily. I then cleaned up and wiped the holes with MEK. I pre-squeezed a few -4 rivets to better fill the holes. I then mixed up a sealant and installed all of them with the squeezer. Most of them came out ok. A few will need to be re-done. I think the problem is that I am not getting completely square with the set on the skin side. That allows the rivet to rotate slightly in the hole with one side then standing proud of the rivet.
