Brief Description:  Landing Gear Fittings Part 12

Well, a couple of steps back today. I went into the shop expecting to align and tack all the fittings together, but when I got the fuselage and gear in place, it was off, and off by quite a bit. I fussed and dinked with it for too long, trying to figure out how I could have been off by so much. We're talking about 3/8ths of an inch at the mounting points and that's too much. I checked and rechecked everything and then I started to suspect the gear was off. But, I figured it was built in a jig, so that souldn't be it. So, I took a bunch of measurements and finally figured out that the pieces holding the landing gear to the main beam were off. I checked everything. The tubes were aligned, the pieces that slide onto the beam were good. Then, I decided to check the squareness of the face of the tube. BINGO! Both sides were off and in different directions. We're talking about no more than 1/16th at the most, but amplified over the distance and the fact it was in different directions made it look screwy. So, I faced the tubes as accurately as I could, measured and checked everything again and put it back together. Success! Now, back to where I thought I was 5 days ago. Oh well...live and learn.
