Brief Description:  Elevator Balance Part 1

One thing that occurred to me is that I should check the elevator balance with the trim tab installed and the parts in primer. I used Russ Erb’s method of calculating how much lead I will need to compensate for all the weight aft of the elevator spar. I didn’t want to “just” add too much and remove what I don’t need later. (this is actually the best way) I put in about 4lbs 5oz using the calculations. I assembled the elevator to the horizontal stab and was happy to see the nose of the elevator point down…good sign! Then, when I installed the trim tab the nose pointed up…bad sign! It wasn’t enough weight, so that means I’ll have to add some which means cutting the fabric. Yay…first repair due to my mistake.
